*** Out of respect to those in attendance, anyone arriving more than 10 minutes late should plan to attend the next orientation.
Who:
All interested volunteers who are able and willing to make a consistent commitment. Children 8 years and older may volunteer, and children under the age of 16 must volunteer with an adult (parent or guardian). Adults supervising child volunteers must supervise a maximum of two children per adult and be in proximity to the children at all times. Children are encouraged to volunteer in such areas as fundraising, baking, cat kennel socializing, and yard work. No one under the age of 18 is permitted to volunteer in the dog kennel, which includes walking dogs. All volunteers wishing to work in either cat or dog kennels must have a current (with the current year of starting to volunteer) photo identification if they are 16 years or older.
Orientation:
Orientation generally lasts one hour. Please be prepared to sign paperwork. Also, please bring your calendar so that you are prepared to sign up on the Volunteer Calendar. Also, kindly note that working in either the cat or dog kennels will require additional training sessions. To volunteer in either kennel, you should be able to attend multiple Monday night training/socializing sessions at the shelter. Anyone under age 18 will need a parent to attend orientation with them to sign paperwork.
Community services, school projects, scout projects, etc.:
These categories of activity must be done through fundraising, special projects, etc., and are not part of volunteer activities as defined within the volunteer program. Those interested in these categories should submit a written description of their project ideas, schedule for completion of tasks, and all other paperwork, and then their request will be discussed by the appropriate personnel and a decision made about the project.
RSVP:
Please RSVP by the Monday prior to the orientation date. Call the kennel at 610-966-9383, select mailbox #8 (it is not announced, just hit "8" when the message begins). Leave your name, number and the names of any children and adults that you are bringing with you. Or you may email us at aidpa@enter.net.
We hope to see you there!

The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 pm.

Top prizes are a gorgeous pair of earrings worth $649, donated by Westgate Jewelers, and a $500 gas grill donated by Lehigh Supply Appliances. June 2013
Laps of Love Walkathon
Sunday, June 2
10:00 am - Registration ($10 per person)
10:30 am - Walkathon begins
At
Animals In Distress
June 2 is our annual Alumni Day Pets and People Party and the Laps of Love Walkathon is the just beginning of all the fun. Get sponsorships now and bring them with you when you register. The entry fee is only $10 per person, with 100% of the proceeds going to help the shelter animals. Entrants bringing $50 or more in sponsorships will receive an AID T-shirt. You can download an entry form from our website (coming soon), pick one up at the shelter, or even fill one out the day of the event.
Also, Team Spook appreciates your support, even if you can’t attend. Just mail in your donation for Team Spook, and Spook will get the credit for that in his total. He wants to win, so he needs everyone’s help to build up his total. Spook wants people to know that cats can raise funds for the shelter as well as the dogs!! In fact, he will be “walking” in the Laps event (weather permitting - rain makes his hair frizz out) and will be showing off his brand new wagon called the SpookMobile, which will be making its public debut at that event.
Entrants will be eligible to win some really nice prizes, but mostly, they will know that they are helping the animals - and having a great time doing it. And please stick around for Alumni Day Pets and People Party after the Laps of Love.
Alumni Day
Sunday, June 2
12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
At
Animals In Distress
This annual event is like a big family gathering where people (and their pets) can eat, socialize, play games, etner contest like the Pet Cake Walk and the Pet/Owner Lookalike Contest, catch up with old friends, and make new ones. Plus you can win some great items in our fabulous basket social. By the way, baskets are needed and can be dropped off by June 1 or brought to the event by noon.
A memento of the day is our Commemorative Journal. Please consider taking out a listing in it, in honor or memory of a loved one, or as a tribute to someone, or as a way to share a favorite poem or photo. Business listings are especially welcome.
Use the form in our upcoming newsletter or download one here (coming soon), and we will do the rest. The Journal is also a fundraiser for us, so please help us make this year's journal one of the best yet.
