Take Me Out To The Ballgame!

In honor of the start of Be Kind to Animals Week, a softball game to benefit our animal sanctuary will be held Sunday, May 2 at the historic Limeport Stadium on Limeport Pike, just a few minutes south of Animals in Distress.

Historic Limeport Stadium will host the annual softball game to benefit Animals In Distress

Teams playing will be the Grandslammers from radio station WAEB against Dr. Joe Sobel and the Thunderclaps from AccuWeather in State College. The first pitch will be thrown at 1 pm.

Jeered on by radio personality Bobby Gunther Walsh, the teams will frolic and joke their way through one of the funniest softball games you will ever attend. Year after year, Dr. Joe Sobel of AccuWeather and his team members have spent hours on the bus from State College just to play this benefit game to raise funds for Animals in Distress.

By the way, we are very appreciative of the hospitality shown to us by the folks at Limeport Stadium. To get there from the end of our driveway, make a right turn and go about 2 minutes south on Limeport Pike. The stadium, on your left, is like a step back in time, when baseball was played by people who just loved the game and who didn't need a $40,000,000 ballpark to enjoy this pastime. The stadium has ample parking as well as covered bleachers so there is no need to bring beach chairs, although you may do so if you wish.

Lunch will be available at noon including a bake sale, snacks and beverages. A wide range of prizes will be given out. All proceeds of the day will be used to help the animals at the sanctuary. There is no admission fee, although donations are much appreciated.

Founded 33 years ago as a non-euthanizing alternative for homeless and abused pets, Animals In Distress exists totally on donations and receives no state or municipal funding. Ever mindful that it is cheap to take a life, and expensive to save life, the sanctuary keeps every pet admitted, providing food, shelter and veterinary care until just the right home can be found - and will keep the animal forever if it is not adopted.

So let's meet in Limeport and play ball!!

To be eligible to win the prizes, get your raffle tickets and return them to us so they arrive by May 1 or bring them to the game. 100% of the raffle proceeds will help our animals, so please buy these tickets and try to sell more. You can call us at 610-966-9383, ext. 8, or stop at the sanctuary, if you would like more tickets.
